A Couple of Raves...Cash Only and the Dollar Store

January 30th, 2007 at 03:51 am

I'm still on my cash-only spending plan which is working out amazingly well. I thought I would blow it this weekend because I just moved into my new offices and the first thing I wanted to do was decorate/shop/basically blow a lot of money. Fourtunately common sense took over and I only spent what cash I had. This is where the Dollar Store comes in. I have rarely shopped at this type of store but figured it was worth a shot if I was going to be able to stretch my cash. To make a long story short, the office looks beautiful and I LOVE the dollar store! Everthing for the kitchen was bought there, the daycare room was completely decorated a la dollar store and lots of odds and ends that would have cost more than a dollar at Walmart were also bought.

if you have a general idea of prices elsewhere, dollar stores can be heaven-sent! place here called dollar tree is the best for picture frames, gift bags, and ceramic dishes. their food, however, isn't that great a deal, which is why it helps to know prices at other stores...

glad to hear you're pleased w/ your new office!

I just started with dollar stores too. I went to one a couple weeks ago when I was visiting my mom. Yesterday, I went to the two that are in my town. From now on, I will always buy my greeting cards there. They are 2/$1. No more paying $2-4 per card. I agree with Tinapbeana though, there were items in there that were definitely more expensive than I can get elsewhere. It helps to know prices.

I love the dollar store...Tina's right about the food though...I picked up the following for a cheap baby shower gift last week: two pack of care bear wipes, a pack of huggies newborn diapers, a board book, 2 pacifiers, and a cute onesie, all in a cute baby bag all for $7.00. It was great and the recipient loved it. Good going on your office and sticking to your cash only plan Smile
